Stop signs aren't needed on Pegasus Trail, reader writes

To the editor:

Re: 'Are Scarborough's stop signs contributing to global warming?,' News, Jan. 19.

As a resident of the quiet Woburn neighbourhood for more than 26 years, I was surprised to see the new stop signs placed at the intersections along Pegasus Trail.

This 47-year-old neighbourhood is a residential enclave with no through streets or access to any other neighbourhood and has been doing just fine these past years using the right-of-way rule.

There is absolutely no reason to have people come to a complete stop at these intersections as there is not enough traffic in the area.

I agree with Scarborough-Agincourt Councillor Mike Del Grande that this will have an effect on the carbon footprint if everyone comes to a complete stop, something that I would have expected Scarborough Centre Councillor Glenn De Baeremaeker to have brought up.

If they felt a sign needed to be placed at these intersections, then a yield sign would have been more appropriate.

To the best of my knowledge there has never been a collision at any of the intersections as the only people who venture here are the residents and visitors, who know the area, and a few lost souls who are likely driving slowly anyway.

Scarborough was right in not spending money to put signs where they are not needed. Too bad the City of Toronto isn't as logical. Here was a place that could have saved a few thousand dollars for the recent budget.

This venture was/is a colossal waste of taxpayers' money.
