Needed: Politicians with courage
Your editorial said something that is revealing and unfortunate: "But given that there are provincial politicians who now owe their careers to not making those very decisions...."
Shouldn't the situation be the reverse: politicians who owe their careers to making tough decisions with integrity and intelligence? I don't think the problem is just at the provincial level.
Maybe politics has always been like this, but nevertheless, the question remains in mind: Why do so many weak individuals actually succeed in politics? We really need candidates with enough courage, intelligence and integrity to make decisions that respect truth and promote the common good, even if that leads to a shortened political career.
In my opinion, until that starts happening, we'll continue to have the kind of low-performing government we have today.
