Bin size is misleading
Since there is only the two of us left in the house, we were thinking of signing up for the small bin. We are also very much into recycling.
Looking over the dimensions of the bin, it looked fine but behold, upon opening the small bin, only two thirds of the bin is usable. Most of the base is solid. I had to go myself and confirm the size as I could not believe the city would be so misleading.
The dimensions given on the pamphlet are outside dimensions. Most of the people around me experienced the same shocking realization. Unless one makes an effort to go and see the display, they will be in for a surprise.
I am all for recycling but let's be honest and fair. The bin is small enough without utilizing just two-thirds of it. No wonder the pamphlet states that a medium-sized bin will be delivered to people who do not put in a request.
It seems to me that this is more of a money grab than concern for the environment. Why not send a small bin if you want people to dump less waste?
I am also waiting to find out what size of garbage bag can be used with the mentioned tags that will be provided for four extra garbage bags. Nothing in the literature I received so far mentions the size. Maybe the city will fine us for extra-large bags should they deem they are not the right size.
I hope that more people speak up on the matter.
