Families keep Toronto prosperous

I am writing this letter to express my disappointment in Mayor David Miller's administration regarding several issues.

Since Miller has taken office, I have seen the service provided deteriorate while my costs have been spiraling out of control.

My property taxes have increased drastically not only due to the unfair tax increase, but also due to the phony exaggerated reassessment. I am unhappy with all the underhanded ways the city is taking my money while reducing services.

I am the father of a family of eight children. I recycle and use the green bin diligently. The new restrictions for recycling will be impossible to adhere to as I put out eight blue bins for every pickup. Even the largest bins will not meet my needs.

It is blatantly unfair to restrict my recycling and garbage output to match the typical family or elderly couple.

If the city expects a family of two to put out two garbage bags, my family should be entitled to 10 garbage bags as we are 10 people. Miller is totally ignoring the needs of large families. I consider this to be blatant discrimination.

Snow removal service has also been less than adequate.

I fondly remember the days of former mayor Mel Lastman when service was top notch.

Maybe the outsourced contractors were more motivated to perform due to their interest in keeping us, their clients, satisfied.

Miller's system is not working. Roads remain uncleared and slippery for too long during and after a storm.

I read daily about new scandals and the wasting of money by the Miller administration including, but not limited to, keeping many vacant homes that can be sold for a profit, overpaying the city unions and city council and exorbitant grants for unnecessary extravagant projects such as the Green Barns Project by Artscape.

When Miller faces a challenge to his decisions, such as the clear disapproval by the majority of the residents of this fine city to his scandalous tax increases, rather than behave like a gentleman and statesman, he threatens and punishes the city like a protesting toddler in a temper tantrum.

I am not proud of Miller as a mayor; he is quite an embarrassment.

Miller must remember Toronto taxpayers are his employer and we pay his salary. I am asking him to reconsider how he guides this city and ask himself honestly if he is really doing the right and best things for our city.

When Miller was elected, I had the utmost respect for him, but things turned sour when I saw how this city is being mismanaged. I love Toronto and it really pains me to see it become dirty, unsafe, unaffordable and hostile to young families. Families are what build a city and Miller's legacy as a mayor should be making Toronto a family friendly city.

If families are happy here, the city will grow and prosper. Without families, the city will wilt and degenerate.
