Suspect sought in sexual assault

Police are looking for a man after a 23-year-old woman was sexually assaulted in Thursday night.

The incident occurred at about 9:35 p.m. near Markham Road and Blakemanor Boulevard, north of Eglinton Avenue.

The victim didn't require medical treatment, police said.

The suspect is white, 23 to 24 years old, five-feet nine-inches to five-feet 11-inches tall with a medium build.

Markham Bypass meeting slated locally

A community meeting regarding the proposed extension of the Markham Bypass into Scarborough takes place on Tuesday, May 13.

Scarborough-Rouge River MPP Bas Balkisson is holding the meeting to update the public on the envrionmental assessment process currently taking place.

The meeting takes place at Thomas L. Wells Public School, 69 Nighstar Rd., near Morningside Avenue at Neilson Road.

Accused racers head to trial

Two men charged in the street racing incident last June that killed Innisfil truck driver David Virgoe are taking their case to trial next month.

Prabhjit Multani, 20, of Etobicoke appeared briefly in a Barrie court Wednesday to set a date for his preliminary hearing, scheduled to begin June 23.

Multani's hearing will be held in conjunction with co-accused Ravi Badwhar, 21, of Mississauga.

Last month, a third accused, Nauman Nusrat, 20, of Etobicoke, pleaded guilty to criminal negligence by way of street racing causing death, driving without insurance and having forged insurance documents.

Nusrat will be sentenced May 15.

Witnesses praised Virgoe, 48, for avoiding other vehicles after he was cut off on Hwy. 400 and steered into an embankment instead. Virgoe was killed instantly.

Armed robbery at Baby on The Hip

Police are seeking information from the public pertaining to an armed robbery, which took place May 6 at Baby on The Hip, 969 Queen St. E.

The incident happened at about 4:20 p.m. when a male entered the store and allegedly produced a knife. The victim managed to escape uninjured.

A man removed a laptop computer and fled the scene in an unknown direction.

Police are looking for a male, white, 20 to 25 years old, six-feet tall with black hair.

Teen sexually assaulted

Police are looking for a man in connection with an alleged sexual assault on May 6.

A 17-year-old female told police she was in the area of Pape Avenue and Queen Street East at noon when a male sexually assaulted her. She did not require medical attention.

Police are looking for a six-foot-tall South Asian male with a medium build.

Man mugged

On May 3, police allege two male suspects mugged a 50-year-old man near Gerrard Street East and Broadview Avenue.

During the incident, the victim was kicked and punched but sustained only minor injuries.

Police are looking for two males of North American Aboriginal descent with black hair.

Man assaulted, robbed

Police are seeking two men in connection with the April 24 assault and robbery of a 22-year-old man.

The incident took place near Carlaw and Riverdale avenues.

Both suspects fled the scene empty handed in an unknown direction. The victim was not injured.

Police describe the suspects as white males. The first person is 23 to 26 years old, while the second suspect is 25 years old, five-feet 10-inches to six-feet tall and 150 to 160 pounds with a thin build.

Bellmere celebrates diversity with Heritiage Fair Wednesday

Bellmere Junior Public School is celebrating its school's diversity with its first Heritage Fair.

The Fair takes place Wednesday, May 14 at the school, 470 Brimorton Dr. During the day students will be involved in cultural talent and fashion shows, poster and speech contests, and a cultural food fair.

The community is invited to the school in the evening for the second portion of the fair from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. There will be cultural workshops, goods and food for sale.
