A suspicious blue package left outside the Rogers Communications Centre at Ryerson university Thursday afternoon turned out to be nothing more than an empty box.
Members of Toronto Police Services' hazardous materials unit were called to the scene at Church and Gould streets at about 1:30 p.m. on April 7 for reports of a questionable parcel outside the building that houses the downtown university's journalism and radio and television arts programs.
Wrapped like a present, the package apparently included a note with the words "do not open."
As a result, the Rogers Communications Centre at was evacuated. Students, staff and faculty members were are also reportedly prohibited from entering or exiting nearby buildings.
The immediate area was temporarily cordoned off as police investigated.
