Hypnotism Day workshop supports youth shelter

Celebrate World Hypnosis Day with hypnosis expert Debbie Papadakis, founder of Toronto's Hypno Healing Institute and a feature of Oprah's 'O's Big Book of Happiness,' Jan. 4.

Papadakis hosts a World Hypnotism Day event at the Hypno Healing Institute, 355 Keele St. (near Keele Street and Dundas Street West) at 6 p.m.

"Hypnosis is medicine for the mind and the body and can help most people," said Papadakis in a statement. "The New York Times recently called hypnosis the 'epitome of mind body medicine' and that's high praise. We all have a wealth of power in our subconscious that can be used in healing, releasing stress and freeing us from internal barriers to health, wealth and happiness."

Papadakis takes credit for helping award-winning radio documentarian and essayist Beverly Donofrio break free of her lifelong shyness. Donofrio's memoir 'Riding in Cars with Boys' was translated into the major motion starring Drew Barrymore.

In addition to working with habits, fears, anxieties and removing blockages, Papadakis, a certified instructor with the National Guild of Hypnotists and the International Medical and Dental Hypnotherapy Association, is internationally recognized for her work on sleep disorders and relationship issues.

Proceeds from her World Hynotism Day workshop will go towards Covenant House, Canada's largest youth shelter.
