Some students of a North York school will begin the year in the library after a fire broke out in a classroom Thursday.
Fire crews were called to Yorkview Public School on Yorkview Drive near Bathurst Street and Finch Avenue at 10:03 a.m.? "There was a small electrical fire in the ceiling of one of the classrooms," said Toronto District School Board spokesman John Caldarone. "There were a number of ceiling tiles that were burned and they'll need to be replaced. And the classroom is going to need to be cleaned."
The building, which houses a daycare, was evacuated as firefighters extinguished the blaze.
Toronto Fire Services Capt. Adrian Ratushniak said damage is estimated at $5,000.
No one was hurt.
