Police dismantle marijuana grow op in home

An investigation by Durham Regional Police has led to the dismantling of a million-dollar marijuana grow operation in a Scarborough house.

Police allege they executed a search warrant on Lavery Trail near Meadowvale and Ellesmere roads and found an indoor marijuana growing "factory" with eight surveillance cameras, water-cooled air conditioners and carbon dioxide generators.

A suspect was discovered hiding under insulation in the attic.

Police seized 875 marijuana plants with a street value of about $1 million.

"Officers also discovered an illegal hydro bypass and water bypass," police said in a news release. "There was also extensive water damage in the residence due to the high humidity levels."

Yun Chen, 42, of Lavery Trail, faces charges including possession for the purpose of trafficking and theft of hydro.

Police are asking anyone with information to call them at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 5802.
