The Rouge Valley Conservation Centre in Scarborough is soon to be home to the first wind-solar hybrid pole mircrofit in the Greater Toronto Area.

Crews were on site Wednesday, Aug. 25, installing the 68-foot renewable energy system from EfstonScience, but it won't be up and generating energy for a few weeks.

Toronto Hydro still needs to hook up the meter before the vertical access wind turbine and solar panel can begin feeding energy into the electricity grid.

The Ontario-built technology is ideal for the Rouge Valley location as it is bird and bat friendly, said Serena Lawrie of RVCC.

It also doesn't produce any noise.

The system was made possible through grants from the City of Toronto's Live Green program and the Ontario Trillium Foundation.
