Public can have say on environmental impact of LRV site

The Toronto Transit Commission issued a notice of commencement on Saturday, July 24 for the Ashbridges Bay light rail vehicle (LRV) site and track project.

An environmental project report is also being prepared as part of this overall Transit Project Assessment (TPA) Process, which is coordinated by the TTC and overseen by the Ontario Ministry of the Environment (MOE). The MOE allows a 120-day time frame for the preparation of this document.

The TPA Process looks at the environmental impact of the Ashbridges Bay LRV maintenance and storage facility and tracks on Leslie Street from Queen Street East to Commissioners Street. This process is done in accordance with Ontario Regulation 231/08, Transit Projects and Greater Toronto Transportation Authority Undertakings (2008).

Once the environmental project report is done, a notice of completion will be issued. Members of the public will have 30 days to review and comment on the notice of completion.

The Ministry of the Environment will then review the document for the next 35 days and decide if the project can move forward.

The notice of completion will be available for public viewing on the TTC's website as well as at several locations in the community such as local libraries and community centres. These locations will be announced at a later date.

For more details about this assessment process as well as the opportunities for public comment, contact the Ministry of the Environment, Environmental Assessment and Approvals Branch, 2 St. Clair Ave. W., Floor 12A, Toronto, ON, M4V 1L5, 416-314-8001, 1-800-461-6290, 416-314-8452 (fax), or www.ene.gov.on.ca/eaab/index.php

For further information on the project, contact TTC Community Liaison Officer Lito Romero at lito.romero@ttc.ca or 416-397-8699.
