A Scarborough man faces charges after five OPP officers were assaulted at the scene of a single-car crash on Highway 401 in North York.
The collision occurred in the westbound express lanes near Yonge Street at about 1:15 a.m. Wednesday, July 28. "Officers determined that the driver's ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by a drug and arrested the driver," police alleged in a news release. "When he began to be secured in the ambulance, the driver...became highly combative and resistive."
Police used Tasers during a 10-minute struggle. A suspect was then taken to hospital.
The assaulted officers received minor injuries.
Christos Kiritsos, 38, has been charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and five counts of assault with intent to resist arrest. He is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 7.
