Firefighters to heat up charity event

Firefighters will be on the auction block for charity at an Etobicoke restaurant this week.

Jack Astor's Bar and Grill (Sherway Gardens), 1900 The Queensway, is hosting a Light my Fire fundraiser on Thursday, July 29 starting at 5 p.m. The evening features several firefighters from the Tame the Flame pin-up recipe book, said Michelle Jansova, who handles marketing and events for the restaurant. She said while wristbands and temporary tattoos will be sold as well as a raffle and 50/50 draw to raise cash, "we're also auctioning off the firefighters to be a personal server for the night," she said. The firefighters will also autograph shirts to be auctioned off, she added.

"It is for everybody," she said of the evening. "We're going to try to keep it as clean as possible."

The evening will also feature a live DJ, along with beverage and appetizer sampling. Admission is free.

All proceeds go to Firefighters without Borders, a non-profit organization assisting fire departments in need of specific skills, training or resources related to the fire service.
