Police release more G20 'persons of interest' photos

Toronto police have released a list and photos of the Top 10 most wanted 'persons of interest' they believe are responsible for causing damage to property and committing other criminal acts during the recent G20 Summit.

During the Wednesday, July 14 press conference, Det. Sgt. Gary Giroux said one of the images released July 14 is that of a man who allegedly smashed numerous windows causing significant and expensive damage to buildings in the downtown core. This individual also reportedly attacked a journalist.

Girous said one man whose image was released alongside those of five others about a week ago has now turned himself in.

Ashan Ravindhraraj, 25, of Toronto, surrendered to 52 Division station on Wednesday, July 14. He was accompanied by his lawyer.

Ravindhraraj, identified as one of the suspects allegedly responsible for the June 26 burning of two police cars near Queen Street East and Spadina Avenue, is facing a charge of arson: damage to property as well as two counts of mischief over $5,000.

Giroux said within hours of releasing that initial round of images, police succeeded in identifying two other wanted men.

Investigators intend to continue this strategy of releasing photos of those wanted for illegal acts on a weekly basis.

Police are looking for an estimated 60 people they believe are involved in destructive and violent behaviour during the G20 Summit June 26 and 27.

If necessary, law enforcement agencies from across Canada as well as the United States will be consulted to assist with this investigation, Giroux added.

Investigators are also using special facial-recognition software to help identify the wanted people.

In the last two or so weeks since the 22-member team was formed, police have received more than 14,000 images and 500 videos. Detectives are now pouring over the information as they work to identify those allegedly involved in illegal acts during the international conference.

"Those responsible for the assault of police officers, the burning of our marked police vehicles and damage done to downtown buildings and surrounding areas, will be held accountable for their criminal conduct," he said in a news release, urging members of the public to continue submitting photos and videos of criminal acts committed during the G20.

Anyone with information, images, or video footage is asked to send it to g20investigativeteam@torontopolice.on.ca. People can also call the tip line at 416-808-7568 or take the information to any police station in Canada. A form can be uploaded by visiting www.torontopolice.on.ca/g20investigation/.

Police have set up a YouTube page at www.youtube.com/torontopolice for those seeking further details.
