Danforth dining festival set for September

There's a food festival coming to the Danforth.

No, not that festival. This one is taking place in September a little further east and it will allow diners to enjoy a variety of cuisines including Moroccan, Ethiopian, Italian, Mexican and Greek.

More than 65 multicultural restaurants have signed on to participate in Mosaic does...Dine Around the Danforth festival organized by the Danforth Mosaic BIA.

The list of restaurants could grow with 100 found in the BIA's borders between Jones and Westlake avenues.

Many of the participating restaurants will be offering discounts or a prix fixe menu in addition to their usual choices.

"It's not just the prix fixe menu, we are injecting enthusiasm into our neighbourhood," said Litsa Kostouros, festival chairperson.

Along with the food options, there will also be entertainment at many of the restaurants including a magic show and storytelling and there will be more typical entertainment fare such as live music.

"It's really a mixed bag," Kostouros said.

"We hope to do something for everybody. All we want to do is have fun and do something that's really memorable for our patrons."

A full list will be available in August.

With the BIA still in its infancy it is trying to get the message out there about a lesser known part of Danforth Avenue that has a lot to offer.

"We have such a menagerie of places and things to do," Kostouros said.

Visitors to the area can also dine on Thai, Tunisian, Sushi or hit up a traditional diner or pub.

The festival runs Sept. 10 to 30. Kostouros said they hope to make it an annual event.

"We definitely feel that this is going to be growing over the years," she said.
