An unidentified 53-year-old man was arrested early Thursday afternoon, June 24 after reportedly driving a vehicle loaded with weapons near the G20 security zone.
The incident happened at about 12:30 p.m. near The Esplanade and Church Street, near the Novotel Hotel, where workers have walked off the job and are protesting out front. The accused's vehicle, a modified four-door, silver-coloured Hyundai Elantra, allegedly contained a crossbow and a chainsaw, which authorities seized.Reports indicate police also confiscated a sledgehammer, four baseball bats, large bottles, tools, metal rods, a laptop bag, three notebooks, and fuel canisters from a makeshift box affixed to the roof of the car.
