Justin Singh triumphed with his design in Canada and now he's set to conquer the world.
The East York resident won the Triumph Inspiration Award Canada 2010 at the end of April and now he and his design are on to London to compete for the international title in September. The Shape Sensation winner recently graduated from George Brown College's design program and he was shocked to win the contest."I wasn't expecting it at all. All of the other contestants were very well done," Singh said.He heard about the contest to design a lingerie show piece at school. He said it took a couple of weeks to complete the Sands of Time-themed black number that he described as a throwback to the 1850s mixed with present day flair."When I was doing it I was thinking, what does shape have to do with lingerie? It hit me - the ideal shape of a woman's body is the hourglass shape so I decided to do that," he said. The hourglass shape is accentuated in his design with a structured skirt-like detail. His prize is the trip to London to compete during fashion week."It's a big step for me. It's an opportunity that I can only pray for. I'm super excited it's been given to me," Singh said.Singh has always been a fan of fashion. He loves the way it's always changing and how it can express a person's personality. He's working on his own line that he describes as Rihanna meets Sex and the City."A little whimsical, but still very edgy and stylish and wearable," he said. He's planning a fashion show on Aug. 14 at the Bata Show Museum and then it's on to London. The winner of the international competition will receive 15,000 Euros and an opportunity to adapt the winning design together with the Triumph design team into a commercial lingerie set. People can vote online for Singh's design (or another entry) and all those who voted for the most popular design online will be entered in a draw for a chance to win a trip to London to sit on the jury panel for the finale.
