After nearly two and a half years, the Thorncliffe Park community is finally getting its library branch back.
Actually, it's getting a new and improved library back. The renovated and expanded Thorncliffe Branch of the Toronto Public Library opens on Tuesday, April 13."We're looking forward to welcoming the community back to Thorncliffe Branch," said city librarian Jane Pyper. "We anticipate being very busy as the neighbourhood rediscovers its library - with an excellent collection of books and DVDs, a KidsStop, free access to wireless Internet service, a beautiful reading lounge for adults and great resources for kids and teens, there is something for everyone."The library closed in December 2007 for the renovations that saw its size doubled to 10,000 square feet. The $1.83 million makeover means barrier-free access to the library from its front entrance to all collections to all lounge areas; new early literacy resources; expanded technology that includes 21 public access computers and free Wi-Fi internet access; and more meeting space for the community. The new library has more than 11,000 new books, CDs, magazines and DVDs and it will have longer hours as it keeps its doors open Monday to Thursday from 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.The Thorncliffe library is located at 48 Thorncliffe Park Drive, off Overlea Boulevard. The grand opening takes place at 1 p.m. on April 13.
