Police killer gets free passes from jail

A man convicted of murdering Toronto police Const. Michael Sweet has been granted unescorted passes from his British Columbia prison.

Sweet, a father of three, was shot during a robbery at a Queen Street West restaurant in the early hours of March 14, 1980.

Craig Munro was convicted of first-degree murder while his younger brother Jamie Munro (paroled in 1992 and moved to Italy) was convicted of second-degree murder.

Craig Munro was granted up to four unescorted passes a year for up to 15 days each at a hearing on Tuesday, Mar. 16
