Scarborough MP's motion condemns Saddam Hussein for gas attacks

Scarborough-Agincourt MP Jim Karygiannis received the support of the House of Commons today in passing a motion to acknowledge the atrocious actions of Saddam Hussein against the Kurdish people in Iraq.

The motion acknowledges the poison gas attack against Halabja on March 16, 1988, the destruction of Iraqi Kurdish villages and the systematic persecution of Kurds in Iraq. The motion, which received unanimous support, condemns these acts as crimes against humanity.

Karygiannis visited the Monument of Halabja Martyrs last year and told survivors he would ask the House of Commons to declare the actions of Saddam Hussein's government against the Kurdish people to be a crime against humanity.
