Disciplinary hearing for Scarborough psychiatrist begins

A prominent Scarborough psychiatrist faces a disciplinary hearing, starting next week, on how he conducted his practice over three decades.

It's alleged Dr. Hung-Tat (Ted) Lo "failed to maintain the standard of practice and is incompetent in his care and treatment" of patients between July 1983 and July 2007.

The hearing at the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario begins Feb. 1.

In February 2006, Huc Minh Chau, a patient of Lo's, killed his common-law wife, Shao-Fang Liang, daughter Vivian and infant son Ivan in their Agincourt apartment. Chau was found not criminally responsible for their deaths.

Lo, a founder of Toronto's Hong Fook Mental Health Association in 1982, has voluntarily had his practice monitored by the College since April 2008.
