Do your part to help Haiti earthquake survivors

The following is a list of organizations accepting donations for Haitian relief as well as events to raise money for the cause. From Jan. 12 to Feb. 12, the Canadian government is matching individual donations to eligible Haiti relief charities up to $50 million. Canadians can make a $5 donation to The Salvation Army's efforts in Haiti by texting the word HAITI to 45678 from any Rogers Wireless or Bell Mobility phone. Donors will then receive a message asking them to confirm their donation with a 'Yes' reply.

Events
CN Tower

To raise awareness of the need to support Haiti's earthquake survivors, the CN Tower will be lit in red and blue, the colours of the Haitian flag, beginning at sunset each night until Jan. 22. The CN Tower will also raise awareness of relief efforts on-site by providing visitors with opportunities to donate to the Canadian Red Cross. Visitors can add a donation at the time of their ticket purchase or use donation boxes on site. Canada Lands Company CLC Limited (CLC), owner of the CN Tower, will also make a donation to the Canadian Red Cross to help meet the immediate needs of the Haitian people.

Canadians with family in Haiti can call the Foreign Affairs Emergency Operations Centre in Ottawa at 1-800-387-3124 or e-mail sos@international.gc.ca; Canadians in Haiti can get in touch with Canadian Embassy officials in Port-au-Prince by calling 613-996-8885.
