Peel Regional Police are considering filing charges against one of the victims of a brutal stabbing at St. Joseph Secondary School after a cell phone video of him beating on another student was made public this week.
The incident caught on video is allegedly what sparked Wednesday's knife attack inside the Creditview Rd. school. Five people including four students and teacher Maria Locicero were stabbed. All of the victims are expected to recover.
Police charged two brothers who attend the school, ages 16 and 17, with attempted murder and weapons offences. Their names cannot be published in accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
In the video, several teens actually are seen beating on the younger brother, who was accused of robbing students at the school.
At least one of the teens seen fighting in the video was stabbed during Wednesday morning's attack, multiple sources have confirmed.
Peel Cst. Wayne Patterson said police are obtaining the video and will review it to see if charges should be laid.
"There are a lot of people in the video and there's potential there that a criminal offence has occurred, but we'll have to review it," he said.
The accused brothers, meanwhile, will be asking a judge Monday to release them on bail. They remain in custody after a brief court appearance yesterday in Brampton.
All five victims were stabbed, reportedly with a kitchen knife, just as students at the school were beginning exams on Wednesday. Well-placed sources say the teacher was stabbed in the hand as she tried to break up a fight among several students that had erupted in a first-floor room.
Other teachers rushed to help and subdued the students.
Three victims, including the teacher, were taken to hospital, according to police. Two others were treated at the scene.
One of the students suffered a serious stab wound to the chest.
