A fire that started in a deep fryer in a restaurant kitchen spread to other parts of a North York building Sunday, Nov. 8 causing an estimated $500,000 damage."The fire was quickly put out in the kitchen. However, the fire got up through the exhaust ventilation shaft," said Capt. Mike Strapko of Toronto Fire Services. "(Firefighters) had to cut some holes in the roof to find out where the fire was hiding."
Emergency crews were called to 1252 Lawrence Ave. E. at 9:43 a.m.
"We set up aerial ladders at the rear and the front of the building," Strapko said. "There was a restaurant that suffered damage on the main floor, and 11 offices on the second floor suffered some fire damage."
There were 15 fire trucks and 60 firefighters at the scene of the two-alarm blaze.
No one was hurt.
