Teen charged with allegedly making prank 911 calls in south Scarborough

A teen has been charged after allegedly making prank 911 calls that tied up police officers for hours.

Police said they received several false 911 calls to the Warden Avenue and Cataraqui Crescent area since December.

At 9 p.m. Dec. 21, a caller reported a stabbing, gave suspect descriptions and gave an address where the suspects were last seen. The call occupied five uniformed officers for 90 minutes.

At 7:45 p.m. Jan. 7, a caller gave an address where he claimed a serious incident was taking place and then hung up.

The call occupied four uniformed officers and an undisclosed number of plainclothes officers for 45 minutes.

At 8:45 p.m. Jan. 16, a caller reported an armed robbery and gave suspect descriptions and the direction where the suspects were fleeing.

The call occupied eight uniformed officers for three hours.

At 10 p.m. Jan. 17, a caller reported an armed robbery, which occupied nine uniformed officers for an hour and 45 minutes.

At 8:15 p.m. Feb. 1, a caller reported a person with a gun and gave a suspect description and a direction in which the suspect was seen fleeing. The call occupied five uniformed officers and an undisclosed number of plainclothes officers for 30 minutes.

At 8:30 p.m. Feb. 9, a caller reported a fight in which the victim was bleeding from the head and stomach. The call occupied five uniformed officers for 45 minutes.

At 7:30 p.m. Feb. 10, a caller reported a home invasion in progress and gave the address where it was happening.

The call occupied two uniformed officers and an undisclosed number of plainclothes officers for 30 minutes.

On Feb. 15, police executed a search warrant and arrested a 16-year-old boy. The teen, who can't be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, has been charged with seven counts of public mischief.
