SIU identifies man shot by police

The province's Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has identified the man shot and killed during a confrontation with police near the Junction Triangle on Monday, Feb. 20 as Frank Anthony Berry.

According to the SIU, Toronto police reported that at approximately 10:40 a.m. they were investigating a man on Campbell Avenue (near Lansdowne Avenue and Dupont Street).

In the course of their investigation, police interacted with Berry, 48, which ended in Berry being shot.

He was transported to St. Michael's Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The SIU - an arm's length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault - has assigned five investigators and three forensic investigators to probe the circumstances of the shooting.
