Two arrests have been made in a rash of break and enters in the south end of Etobicoke.
Police officers from 22 Division's Major Crime Unit and Community Response Unit made the arrests on Saturday, Feb. 18 and Monday, Feb. 20.Det. Pat McGrade of the Major Crime Unit said over the past several months two men allegedly broke into dozens of homes and businesses. McGrade said the two men were working separately. Dallas James Richards, 23, of Etobicoke was arrested on Saturday and is charged with nine counts of break and enter and seven counts of failing to comply with a probation order. He has been remanded in custody. It's alleged Richards broke into nine apartment building units between Dec. 1, 2011 and Feb. 16, 2012 and stole a quantity of money, jewelry and other items. The second arrest came on Monday. Police allege that between Oct. 9, 2011 and Feb. 20, 2011 the accused broke into 31 commercial buildings.David Roberts, 45, also of Etobicoke faces 31 counts of break and enter, 25 counts of failing to comply with a probation order, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, possession of burglary tools, two counts of robbery, theft under $5,000, mischief under $5,000.Roberts made a court appearance earlier today.While some property has been recovered from the crimes, McGrade said people who had property stolen will not be able to reclaim it as the investigation is ongoing. McGrade would also not confirm if anyone was home or at their place of business at the time of the break-ins.~ Georgia Balogiannis
