SIU probes Junction Triangle shooting

The province's Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has been called in to investigate the shooting death of a man near the Junction Triangle on Monday, Feb. 20.

According to the SIU, Toronto police reported that at approximately 10:40 a.m. they were investigating a man on Campbell Avenue (near Lansdowne Avenue and Dupont Street).

During a confrontation between police and the man, the man was shot.

He was transported to St. Michael's Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The SIU - an arm's length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault - has assigned five investigators and three forensic investigators to probe the circumstances of the shooting.
