Police shut down grow-op in Neilson and Finch area

A marijuana grow operation at a Scarborough townhouse complex that police they say posed a serious fire hazard has been dismantled.

Police discovered the operation after executing a search warrant at a townhouse near Neilson Road and Finch Avenue Feb. 15.

"The assessment of the house revealed extensive electrical alterations that were believed to be a serious fire hazard. There were no functioning smoke detectors located," police said in a news release. "Toronto Hydro had to be contacted to disconnect the electric service to the home to remove the risks associated with the compromised electrical system."

About 600 marijuana plants, with a street value of $600,000, were seized.

No arrests have been made.

Anyone with information is asked to call the drug squad at 416-808-6100 or Crime Stoppers at 416-222-TIPS (8477).
