Toronto Public Library will host a series of creative workshops designed to help teens find their inner writer and artist.

Three workshops with professional mentors will be featured at three different branches, with youngsters aged 12 to 19 invited to attend for free.

The first workshop will feature poet Matthew Tierney, who will teach aspiring writers to use humour in their writing. It will take place at the Runnymede Toronto Public Library branch (2178 Bloor St. W.) at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15.

On Saturday, Feb. 25 at 2 p.m. at the Toronto Reference Library (789 Yonge St.) artist Michael Brown will teach youngsters some tips and techniques for drawing with Sharpies.

On Thursday, March 15 at 3 p.m., author Karen Krossing will highlight the fun of writing at the Cedarbrae branch (545 Markham Rd.)

The workshops are designed to lead up to the March 31 submission deadline for this year's edition of Young Voices, the library's annual magazine showcasing the writing and artistic talent of Toronto teens.

For more information on the workshops, or to register, contact Ken Sparling at 416-397-5970 or via email at ksparling@torontopubliclibrary.ca
