Police continue to look for suspect in murder of 21-year-old man

John Kang was shot in parking lot of plaza at Finch and Victoria Park avenues

Police continue to search for a Scarborough murder suspect and warn that charges could be laid against anyone hiding him.

Henok Mebratu, 19, is wanted for first-degree murder in last year's shooting death of 21-year-old John Kang.

Police had said Kang and his friend met with two male suspects at a plaza on Finch Avenue east of Victoria Park Avenue around 10 p.m. May 26.

The four men talked for a few minutes before walking to the middle of the parking lot where the suspects allegedly removed handguns from their waistbands. A demand for money was made. Kang didn't comply and was fatally shot.

In July, police charged 20-year-old Raphael Okezie with first-degree murder.

Mebratu is still being sought.

"He should be considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached," police said in a news release.

"Criminal charges may be pursued for anyone knowingly hiding or assisting the suspect."

Anyone with information is asked to call the homicide squad at 416-808-7400 or Crime Stoppers at 416-222-TIPS (8477).
