Talk about blowing your own horn.
To mark International Horn Day, musicians will host a concert Friday at York University featuring music performed by French horn players from across the Greater Toronto Area and beyond. There will be a world premiere performance of Flared Tubings by David Mott and Polonaise by Richard Cohen. The guest soloist will be Jacquelyn Adams from New York City. Gloria Ratcliffe, the former principal hornist with the Edmonton Symphony and founder of International Horn Day, will be honoured with a special tribute. The performance will also feature professional horn sections, semi-professional players, amateurs, university groups and students from some of the province's best secondary school music programs.Members of the Toronto Symphony, Tafelmusik, the University of Western Ontario, Glenn Gould School and many other groups will perform. The grand finale will be a rousing hunting chorus played by all the performers and any members of the audience who want to "horn" in by attending the concert with their own instruments. The concert takes place Feb. 10 at 7:30 p.m. at York's Tribute Communities Recital Hall at 4700 Keele St., south of Steeles Avenue.Tickets are $10 at the university box office. For more information, visit www.internationalhornday.wordpress.com
