Schools forced into lockdown after man with gun spotted

Man, 18, wearing bullet-proof vest arrested

A gun scare forced a number of Scarborough schools into lockdowns during the lunch-hour Monday.

Police said a gunman wearing a black bullet-proof vest was seen on Marlena Drive in the Morningside and Lawrence avenues area at 11:57 a.m. on Feb. 6.

Sir Robert L. Borden, St. Martin de Porres schools in the neighbourhood were locked down as a result.

Police arrested an 18-year-old man, who had the bullet-proof vest.

But no gun was recovered.

Const. Victor Kwong said police are looking for a second suspect, who may be armed.

The school lockdowns were lifted at 1:23 p.m.

No shots were fired; no one was hurt.
