A Scarborough man faces charges after girls were allegedly counselled to perform sexual acts online.

Police said a man was in contact with girls using social networking websites Nexopia.com, Facebook.com and MSN Messenger. He allegedly used profile pictures of an unidentified young man who police believe lives in Toronto.

A suspect used the email addresses sirazb@hotmail.com and shiraz900@hotmail.com and the user names sirazb, alex_isme and a1.sirop.

Det. Joel Manherz said that in September 2010 a girl made a report to the RCMP in Alberta that she had met a male online on Nexopia.com, a social networking website for teens.

"This male, who claimed to be 19 years old, did not have a web camera and had very few pictures associated to his profile," said Manherz, adding, the male "demanded, and at other times, begged the victim to send him compromising pictures of herself and to masturbate for him on webcam."

Shiraz Nariman, 42, of Scarborough, was arrested Jan. 31.

Police allege they found many child sexual abuse images and numerous other girls were victimized in a similar fashion as far back as 2006.

"There is also some indication that Mr. Nariman may have met up with some of these young girls," Manherz alleged.

At a news conference Friday, Feb. 3, police released a photo of Nariman as well as the male in the profile pictures.

"The male in these profile pictures...may be local to the Toronto area. This male has done nothing wrong," Manherz said. "We would like to identify this gentleman, who in a manner has also been victimized."

Manherz also stressed the girls who sent compromising photos didn't break the law and aren't in any trouble.

"They are victims who were misled online in order to satisfy the needs of an individual who grossly misrepresented himself," Manherz alleged. "The girls he chatted with thought they knew who he was and some talked about moving in with him or even marrying him."

Nariman has been charged with luring a child under 16 years, invitation to sexual touching, accessing child pornography, making child pornography and two counts of possessing child pornography.

Police are asking anyone with information to call them at 416-808-8500 or Crime Stoppers at 416-222-TIPS (8477).
