Man charged in connection with armed robbery at jewelry store

Police fire tear gas into Bobmar Road home during arrest

A man faces charges in connection with an armed jewelry heist in the Kingston Road and Eglinton Avenue area.

Police allege four men walked into a jewelry store on Jan. 26. One man, armed with a gun, jumped over the counter and pushed two employees to the back of the store.

The men allegedly fled with $636,000 worth of jewelry.

On Wednesday, Feb. 1, officers with the holdup squad and the emergency task force executed a search warrant at a home on Bobmar Road near Ellesmere and Conlins roads.

"The accused secreted himself in the home," police alleged in a news release. "Officers deployed three tear gas canisters into the home."

But a suspect still refused to come out.

Officers then entered the home and located a man. A violent struggled ensued before a suspect was subdued and arrested.

Muhammad Ishaq, 26, has been charged with robbery while armed with a firearm, weapons dangerous, possessing proceeds of crime, assaulting a peace officer and resisting or obstructing public or peace officer.

Police are asking anyone with information to call the holdup squad at 416-808-7350 or Crime Stoppers at 416-222-TIPS (8477).
