A fundraiser for villages in Thailand hit by flooding as well as the Not 4 Sale safe house for children sold into sex slavery in Cambodia will be held Sunday, Feb. 5 in the Beach.

The event takes place from 4 to 6 p.m. at The Fox Theatre, 2236 Queen St. E. at Beech Avenue, and will include a silent auction, live music by the Random Road Bank, comedy by Timmy Boyle as well as door prizes and hors d'oeuvres.

Admission is $10 per person or $25 for a family.

Funds raised will help purchase much-needed supplies for impoverished people in Thailand and Cambodia.

In late February and early March, a group of parishioners from Centre of Hope International Church, including Toronto Community News staffer Deon Malloy, his wife Melissa and their two children Destiny, 9, and Judah, 6, will travel to southeast Asia on the mission trip.

The Malloys are the pastors of the local church, which meets Sunday mornings at The Fox.

"This all happened before the flooding but when it did happen, it gave us even more incentive to go and help out," said Malloy, who will spend half of his time ministering in the jungles of Thailand with a few of the group's members and the remainder at the safe house in Cambodia.

Center of Hope International Church is a member of Victory Churches International, which opened the Not 4 Sale rescue home in 2010.

"Were going to make it a double trip and go and serve in Thailand and at this home we started last year," said Malloy, who has traveled abroad on several mission trips.

"(Mission trips) make you grateful for what you have. I don't think there's anything like helping out others. It touches your life."
