Police: Man tries to lure girl with offer of candy

Police are warning the public of a potential sex offender after a man tried to entice a young girl to his vehicle in North York Tuesday, Jan. 31.

Police said a 10-year-old girl was walking alone on Buckland Avenue when a man in a silver SUV pulled up beside her around 10 a.m. The man waved for the girl to come closer to his vehicle, which she refused to do. He then offered her candy. The girl then ran from the vehicle.

The suspect is described as Asian, in his mid to late 30s with a medium build, a moustache and unshaven face. He was wearing a dark grey knitted hat with a baseball cap-style brim, and a grey jacket. He was driving a clean, newer-looking, silver SUV with dark tinted windows.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 416-808-3100 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-8477.
