Don't advertise gifts at curb

Police are urging area residents to take measures to not become the victim of a break-in.

Const. Rob McDonald, 55 Division's crime prevention officer, is advising people to break down the boxes of valuable gifts like computers, tablets or laptops into small pieces before placing them in the recycling or garbage bin as to not advertise the new and expensive items in your home to would-be thieves.

He also suggested people be careful about posting pictures or status updates/tweets on social media sites about their new belongings.

McDonald is, however, encouraging people to snap pictures of their valuables and store those images on a USB drive or burn them onto a disk.

Anyone with questions or concerns should call 55 Division at 416-808-5500.
