The Dovercourt Boys and Girls Club will see a changing of the guard later this month.
As of Sept. 30, Justin Hanna left his post as operations manager to pursue other endeavors. Hanna, according to the club's board of directors, is credited with helping to raise more than $1.5 million for the expansion of the club and its year-over-year growth in all programs - with an increase of 250 per cent for summer camps. Hanna was also instrumental in securing a new home for the Junction Triangle Club on Bloor Street West."This was not an easy decision to make. The Dovercourt Boys and Girls Club has been my second home for over four years and in that time we have been able to accomplish some outstanding achievements," said Hanna in a statement. "I leave at a stage in the club's future that is strong and full of potential, the road ahead for Dovercourt will be one of positive growth. I leave at a time when our remarkable staff and volunteers are more than capable of taking the club to the next level."It was recently announced that Danny Anckle will assume the role of executive director effective Oct. 17. Anckle boasts more than two decades of experience serving youth and has served as a volunteer on several boards. Anckle can take credit for revamping all programming and writing a five-year strategic plan while working with the Central Neighbourhood House. As chair of the board of the Christie-Ossington Neighbourhood Centre, Anckle developed a youth-engagement program that has proved successful in the area. At the helm of the Dovercourt Boys and Girls Club, he will be creating a parent advisory committee and youth council to help shape the club's future. Until Anckle arrives, Matteo Severino will serve as contact for programming and Lina Demelo will address any administrative concerns. To contact the club, call 416-536-4102.
