Several Scarborough companies are opening their doors for the first Green Energy Field Day on Saturday.
Interect Inc., Samco Solar and New Dawn Energy Solutions are opening their doors for the educational event organized by the Ontario Sustainable Energy Association on Saturday, Sept. 24.Interect is a solar wholesale distributor and educator. "We wanted to spread the word on green energy," said Julie Adshade, manager of education, as the reason for the participating in the new event.It offers a range of training programs, including intro to solar, so it is comfortable educating people about solar power. People who attend the open house from noon to 2 p.m. will have a chance to tour the shop and ask questions about the way solar energy works.Adshade said the open house will be very informal and feature refreshments and pizza. It will also be showing the movie "The Age of Stupid," which is a 90-minute movie about climate change. Interect is located at 510 Coronation Dr., Unit 17.Samco Solar is offering a family-friendly open house at it's Kennedy Road location to also increase knowledge around solar power. "Samco Solar decided to organize an open door event that day to raise awareness about solar energy in the community," said Yann Jadis, the company's business development manager.The event will feature a solar passport that children - and adults - can take to the five information tables that will be set up. People will learn about different aspects of solar energy, such as how the panels work, and be asked questions in order to earn stamps. Upon completing of the passport they'll receive a solar citizenship diploma.The event runs from 9:30 a.m. to noon and also features a bouncy castle, face painting, loot bags for kids, prizes, and a chance for the adults to win a solar consultation and $1,500 in incentives. Samco Solar is located at 1399 Kennedy Road, Unit 7.New Dawn Energy Solutions is offering people the chance to view a home with an active solar installation generating electricity. People will be able to view the components of the system, hear from the homeowner about what it's like to live with these systems, and ask questions in a casual and fun atmosphere. A company representative will be on site to answer technical questions, talk about cost and available incentives. The free open house runs from noon to 4 p.m. at 2 Garrybrook Dr., which is off Huntingwood Drive.Green Energy Field Day is an event organized by the OSEA for people to tour and learn about green energy projects across the province.
