Man faces 61 charges after skimming devices found in ATMs

Police are reminding the public to be aware and attentive when using ATMs.

On Sat., Nov 13, police responded to a call for a fraud near Bathurst Street and St. Clair Avenue West after citizens using an ATM contacted authorities when a piece of the machine detached revealing a skimming device with a micro camera attached.

Police commenced an investigation and on Wednesday, Aug. 17. Adrian Hayward, of Toronto, was arrested.

Hayward is facing 61 fraud-related charges. He had an Aug. 18 court appearance.

From November 2010 to August 2011, the accused allegedly attended several financial institutions throughout Toronto, York and Peel regions and reportedly installed skimming devices to ATMs, which recorded and stored personal debit card data of users.

Video surveillance and further investigation identified Hayward as the suspect.

A search warrant was subsequently executed at his home and evidence was seized.
