If you have any aspirations of a new career in municipal politics, you'd better act fast.
The deadline to register as a candidate for the Oct. 25 municipal election is on Friday, Sept. 10 at 2 p.m.Candidates must file nomination papers with the city and pay a fee for the office they are seeking. For mayor, the fee is $200 while the fee is $100 to run as a councillor or school trustee,York voters will have many candidates to choose from as they ponder who they want to represent them as a councillor at city hall.In Ward 11 (York South-Weston), incumbent Frances Nunziata is running against challengers Abdi Hashised, Leo Marshall and Fulvio Sansone.In Ward 12 (York South-Weston), a long list of contenders is looking to unseat incumbent Frank Di Giorgio. The candidates are Angelo Bellavia, Nick Dominelli, Vilma Filici, Richard Gosling, Joe Renda, Scott Tadman and Steve Tasses.The race is wide open in Ward 15 (Eglinton-Lawrence) after veteran councillor Howard Moscoe announced last week he had withdrawn from the race. Looking to take his place are Josh Colle, Rob Davis, Tony Evangelista, Giuseppe Pede, William Reitsma, Ron Singer and Eva Tavares.In Ward 17 (Davenport), incumbent Cesar Palacio is being challenged by Anil Gupta, Tony Letra and Jonah Schein.And in Ward 21 (St. Paul's), the contenders looking to unseat incumbent Joe Mihevc are Marius Frederick, Alex Freedman, Beth McLellan, Peter Nolan and Shimmy Posen.Voters will know the official final slate of candidates by Friday afternoon once the registration deadline has passed.For more information about the municipal election, visit www.insidetorontovotes.ca
