Fourteen people are now running to win a shortened term as a public school trustee for Scarborough-Agincourt.
A Feb. 27 byelection to replace Soo Wong - necessary after she was elected an MPP last fall - attracted plenty of interest from candidates who feel they have what it takes to improve the education system while serving as the Toronto District School Board representative in Ward 20.The city cut off candidate nominations Friday, Jan. 13, at 2 p.m. Sharon Meade was the last to register, just hours before the deadline.Other recent additions to the roster are Winston John, Ron Lowe, Kenny Tsui and Manna Wong.Another candidate withdrew last month.Candidates running for the trustee position in Ward 20 are: Monica Batac, Kelly Belbin, Appoline Gallaza, Khamy Ganeshathasan, Scott Harrison, Winston John, Ron Lowe, Kajabal Mahalingam, Carol McDonald, Sharon Meade, Sam Sotiropoulos, Kenny Tsui, Manna Wong and Sonny Yeung.Ward 20 covers northwest Scarborough from Hwy. 401 to Steeles Avenue, and from Victoria Park Avenue to Midland Avenue (north of Finch Avenue) and Brimley Road (south of Finch).
