Some of the city's mayoral hopefuls will set aside their politics and come together for a greater cause tonight, Thursday, Jan. 21.
A special Campaign for Haiti event will take place at the Ultra Supper Club from 5 to 7:30 p.m. with several of the mayoral candidates slated to attend.The evening will give Toronto residents a chance to mingle with the city's possible future leaders while raising money to help those devastated by the massive earthquake that has killed tens of thousands of people since Jan. 12.The Campaign for Haiti was conceived by professional event organizer Deb Lewis of City Events and Ward 15 council hopeful Rob Davis. Mayoral hopefuls who have confirmed they will participate include George Smitherman, Rocco Rossi, Giorgio Mammoliti, JP Pampena, Rocco Achampong, Michael State, Baquie Ghazi and Sarah Thompson.Organizers are asking attendees to give a donation of $5 or more to support the relief effort in Haiti. All funds raised will go to the Canadian Red Cross Disaster Relief for Haiti Fund.
