Mayor Rob Ford's shedding the pounds almost as fast as he's shedding support on council.
On Monday, Jan. 30, morning, at the end of his second week in his Cut the Waistline diet-and-exercise program, Ford stepped on the scales outside his Toronto City Hall office and found he was down to 314 pounds. That's 16 pounds down from his initial weigh-in at 330 pounds.According to his brother Doug Ford, who's also on the weight-loss program, the two have been using the tried-and-true diet method - eating less and exercising - and have seen some initial results."It's getting tougher as we go," said Councillor Ford. "Rob did 32 laps yesterday."The mayor's weight loss for the past week came in at six pounds - impressive, but less than the 10 pounds he dropped in his first week."The first week I knew we were going to lose a lot because you lose a lot of water," said Ford.In terms of weight loss, Ford's next challenge will be on the weekend, when Super Bowl Sunday kicks in."This is going to be a challenge," he said. "It's my favourite day of the year. Sunday will be a big challenge."Ford spoke briefly about his other challenge - maintaining support for his subway plan, in the face of growing opposition on council.Ford told reporters he wasn't going to bend on the matter, after hearing from the public during a Saturday fitness walk at Scarborough's Eglinton Square."I was in Scarborough on the weekend - they want subways," he said.
