Etobicoke to be home to one of first Target stores in Canada

Target will open its first Canadian stores in Etobicoke, North York and East York next year.

The U.S. retailing giant reported it will open its first 24 Canadian stores throughout Ontario in March or April 2013, including these Toronto locations:

* Cloverdale Mall in Etobicoke;

* Centerpoint Mall in North York;

* Shoppers World Danforth in East York and

* East York Town Centre

Target purchased the leasehold interests of 189 Zellers stores. It plans to open 125 to 135 stores in Canada. Most will open in 2013.

The company will invest between approximately $10 million to renovate each store, which will employ 150 to 200 people.
