A corner of Streetsville is getting a facelift, and a new medical centre.Ground was broken yesterday at the corner of Queen St. S. and Caroline St. for the new building, which will house various medical facilities including dental, medical and eye clinics.
"I felt that a new development was critical to re-beautify this area," said Dr. Cyril Tahtadjian, founder and CEO of Cyncorp Developments Inc.
Tahtadjian, a dentist, who bought the property in 2005, said he selected the location because there were two 19th-century homes that were in such a state of disrepair the City of Mississauga had deemed them a safety hazard.
The next three years were spent developing the project for a building that would not only blend in with the streetscape, but would preserve Streetsville's architectural character, Tahtadjian said.
Not intended to be solely a medical centre, the building will house more professional and personal services, such as law offices and massage therapy, if Tahtadjian has his way.
"I want to create an environment where families and people in the area can enjoy a multitude of services in one place," said Tahtadjian, who'll relocate his dental office, currently just up the street, to the new site.
Having lived and worked in Streetsville for over 13 years, Tahtadjian said he was passionate to see his community continue to develop into a beautiful village while maintaining its history and charm.
"I also felt that having a Rotary park and public library next door was the ideal draw for the local Streetsville families to which these new businesses would offer their services," he said. "We want to see this building as another prominent landmark, among others which make Streetsville such a memorable village."
