G20 pre-dawn raids arrest four

The Integrated Security Unit (ISU) has confirmed four individuals were arrested during a series of pre-dawn raids Saturday.

Each charged with one count of conspiracy to commit mischief over $5,000, the accused have been transported to the temporary G20 detention facility on Eastern Avenue for processing and are currently being held for a show-cause hearing, said the ISU’s Nena Snyder.

The arrested are Amanda Hiscocks, 36; Peter Hopperton, 24; Alex Hundert, 30; and Leah Henderson, 29. Snyder was unable to confirm where the accused are from at this time.
Early this afternoon, the Toronto Community Mobilization Network held a press conference at a home at 114 Westmoreland Ave., one of the alleged locations members of the Integrated Security Unit raided.

Niki Thorne, who lives in the Roncesvalles area, told Toronto Community News this afternoon her house was raided and that a man who lives there was taken in to police custody.

The detained are believed to be organizers of the Friday, June 25 Justice for Our Communities march.

Reports indicate police also attempted to execute warrants at a tent city set up Friday night in Allan Gardens, near Sherbourne and Gerrard streets.

Protesters claim the pre-dawn raids were carried out without warrants.

This past Wednesday, June 23, the Movement Defence Committee (MDC), which provides legal support for activists, and the Toronto Community Mobilization Network held a press conference outside police headquarters about illegal detentions and searches. More than 100 legal observers – trained by the MDC – are set to attend all the actions leading up to and during the G20 Summit.
