The city celebrates Multiculturalism Day

Canada's diversity is being celebrated later this month at the Living Arts Centre.
On June 27 from 5-9 p.m., Mississauga residents are invited to join in on Multiculturalism Day festivities.
Zubair Choudhry, co-chair of Multiculturalism Celebration Committee of Ontario, says the day gives Canadians an opportunity "to celebrate our diversity and our commitment to democracy, equality and mutual respect and to appreciate the contributions of the various multicultural groups and communities to Canadian society."
The event includes performances by diverse artists, an affirmation ceremony for new Canadian citizens and a ceremony to honour Multiculturalism Day volunteers.
It also features a multicultural awards ceremony to recognize contributions from community groups and business leaders.
Organizers ask the public to donate food and beverages, children's prizes and offer financial support to make the event a success.
