Third-party arbitrator needed in TTC strike

Re: 'Union rejects TTC's first contract offer,' News, March 14.

It appears TTC leaders and the union are nowhere close to resolving their differences to avoid a strike.

As a 15-year-old student, I rely on the bus during the week as well as on the weekends. Furthermore, there are many people who desperately need this public service to get on with their lives. It is not fair to the public who have to suffer from the TTC's mistakes.

The TTC leaders - both management and union - better get serious, fast. Both sides need to recognize this issue needs to be resolved, which means no posturing or games. If this cannot be done, bring in a third-party arbitrator. Both the union and the TTC leaders will be able to select a person, who will then choose one other person to vote with them. The negotiation will be decided by the majority of the three people. It is as simple as that. This way, both sides will have an equal and fair chance of getting what they want.

The negotiations will be done quickly and fairly while decreasing the likelihood of a strike. So do us all a favour and think of others before making us all walk to work.
